Private George Kellett, 1st Battalion Royal Lancaster Regiment, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 23 August 1914. His battalion formed part of the 12th Infantry Brigade, 4th Division, in Pulteney’s III Army Corps. Rushed to Le Cateau on 24 August 1914, where on 26 August it was decimated by German machine-guns, suffering casualties of 12 officers and 431 other ranks in the first 20 minutes of the battle. George Kellett was one of the survivors. With copied m.i.c. - clasp confirmed.
