An early Second World War North Africa operations M.M. awarded to Fusilier D. Walsh, Royal Fusiliers, who was decorated for his gallantry at the capture of Tummar West in December 1940, when he led a bayonet charge and captured 50 Libyans

Military Medal, G.VI.R. (6466717 Fsr. D. Walsh, R. Fus.), edge nicks, very fine £1100-1300

M.M. London Gazette 25 April 1941. The original recommendation states:

‘Fusilier Walsh led a bayonet charge on a post held by at least 50 Libyans who quickly surrendered. He was wounded in the hand but refused to go back to the R.A.P. He continued with his section in the attack and helped to stop a local counter-attack. He did not go to the R.A.P. until ordered by his Platoon Commander next morning.’

David Walsh was serving in the 1st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, at the time of the above cited deeds.
