M.M. London Gazette 21 August 1917.

John Perren arrived in France on 31 May 1915, as a Private in the 23rd (Service) Battalion (2nd Football), Middlesex Regiment. His subsequent award of the M.M. was in respect of gallantry at St. Eloi in the Ypres salient in the summer of 1917:

‘I wish to put on record my appreciation of your bravery at St. Eloi on 7 June 1917, when your companions were subjected to heavy machine-gun fire. You, with two others, went boldly forward and put the gun out of action with bombs and captured the machine-gun, thus saving many casualties. Your gallant action was a fine example to others.’

So states the commendation of the G.O.C. 41st Division, a typed copy of which is included.
