Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 1 clasp, Defence of Ladysmith (3700 Pte. A. Spiers, Glouc. Regt.) official correction to initial, edge bruising, very fine £100-140

Arthur Spiers was born in Gloucestershire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Gloucestershire Regiment at Gloucester on 3 October 1892, aged 19 years. With the 1st Battalion he served in Malta, November 1893-November 1895; Egypt, November 1895-February 1897; India, February 1897-September 1899; South Africa, September 1899-August 1900 and Ceylon, August 1900-December 1902. Convicted of ‘drunkenness on duty’ on 30 July 1900 and sentenced to 42 days imprisonment. Transferred to the Army Reserve in April 1903 and was discharged on 11 February 1904. The above was his only medal. With copied service papers.
