A contemporary clerk’s copy of a Peninsular War letter written by Lieutenant-Colonel H. W. Ellis, C.O. of the 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers, who died of wounds at Waterloo, ink, two sides on a single sheet of paper, dated at ‘Lisbon, 2d July 1811, 28 Rua da Francisca’, with overlaid paper seal marked ‘Copie’ to upper left hand corner. The content discussing the arrest of one ‘Manuel da Cunha’, a Portuguese servant to ‘Mr. Bromley, Pay Master of the Royal Welch Fusiliers,’ and requesting his release in order ‘to save an effective British soldier to the Army’ having to undertake similar duties, in good overall condition £60-80
