Walter Douglas Brook was born in Dover in 1887. Served with the 2nd Durban Light Infantry in German South West Africa. Discharged from the 1st Infantry Regiment on 18 July 1915. Attested for the South African Expeditionary Force in September 1916. With the 2nd South African Infantry in France from 19 January 1917. Killed in action on 12 April 1918 in the German attack on the Mesines-Wytschaete line. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. With copied service papers.
