Walter James Bourlet was born on 26 January 1891, his home address being in Hornsey Rise, London. Employed as a Painter, he enlisted at Valcartier on 29 August 1914. Serving with the 3rd Battalion Canadian Infantry and an original member of the 1st Canadian Division, he was wounded in action in France on 28 May 1915 - suffering a gunshot wound to the right leg. Invalided to England, he recovered and was posted to the 9th Reserve Battalion. He returned to France in January 1917 and served with the Canadian Infantry Works Battalion from June 1917. Discharged on 27 May 1919. With copied service papers.
