William Mattison Carr was born in Winnipeg on 21 July 1887. A trained Physician and Surgeon, he joined the Canadian Army Medical Corps on 12 August 1914 and was appointed a Lieutenant in the 16th Cavalry Field Ambulance in Winnipeg. He attested for overseas service at Winnipeg on 5 April 1915 in the rank of Captain. He served in various units overseas including No. 1 General Hospital, Netheravon; 4th Field Ambulance (2nd Division) from 1 April 1916 and M.O. of the 18th Battalion (4th Brigade, 2nd Division) from 22 July 1916. At the end of the war he was discharged in Canada on 30 April 1919. Returning to Winnipeg, he was employed as a Radiologist at the General Hospital, 1920-24. His military service continued with service in the Militia - 13 (Reserve) Field Ambulance at Victoria, 1927-35. He was promoted to Major in 1929 and transferred to the General List Reserve, R.C.A.M.C. in 1935. He volunteered for war service in Vancouver on 17 June 1940, as a Physician/Radiologist and was posted to the U.K. where he served variously with Nos. 5 and 1 General Hospitals. He returned to Canada in June 1942 and was given a medical discharge on 31 October 1942. Dr Carr died at Victoria on 25 December 1954, With some copied research.
