Three: Private G. Penny, North Staffordshire Regiment

George Penny was born in Tettenhall, near Wolverhampton. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the North Staffordshire Regiment at Wolverhampton on 17 March 1890, aged 22 years, 6 months. He served with the regiment in the Sudan campaign, being awarded both the Queen’s and Khedive’s Sudan medals and was awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal with £5 gratuity in 1910. He was discharged at his own request on 26 August 1911 He re-enlisted on 19 October 1914 and served in the Royal Defence Corps, being discharged once more on 8 March 1919. George Penny died in Tettenhall on 17 November 1947. With copied service papers and copied death certificate.
