Pair: Troop Sergeant-Major G. A. Horton, 11th Hussars

George Augustus Horton was born in Lambeth, London. He attested for the 11th Hussars at Westminster on 5 August 1871, aged 20 years, 10 months. With the unit he served in India, March 1870-January 1878 and in Egypt and Sudan, September 1884-July 1885. The 11th Hussars supplied a detachment of 2 officers and 43 other ranks as part of the Light Camel Regiment who took part in the Gordon Relief Expedition. Troop Sergeant-Major Horton was the senior ‘other rank’ of the 11th Hussar detachment. Horton was discharged on 24 December 1889. With copied service papers and other research including photocopied photographs of the recipient.
