The Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire, C.I.E., Companion’s 3rd type neck badge, gold and enamel, with neck cravat; The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) Officer’s 1st type breast badge, silver-gilt, hallmarks for London 1918; Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed; 1914 Star, with clasp (Capt., 1/24/Sikh Pioneers); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oak leaf (Capt.); Delhi Durbar 1911; Jubilee 1935; Coronation 1937, these unnamed, medals mounted for display, generally good very fine (9) £1500-1800

George Frederick Joseph Paterson was born on 26 March 1885, son of Colonel H. Paterson, 23rd Punjab Pioneers. He was educated at The Oratory School, Birmingham and at the R.M.C. Sandhurst. He received his first commission in 1904 and joined the 34th Sikh Pioneers , Indian Army in 1905. Served in the Great War in France, 1914-15 and in Mesopotamia, 1916-19. For his services he was twice mentioned in despatches and awarded the Military Cross. Transferred to the Cantonments Department in 1919. Awarded the O.B.E. in 1926. Appointed Director of Military Lands and Cantonments, Defence Department, Government of India, 1935. Awarded the C.I.E. in 1937 and retired from the Indian Army in 1942.
