Geddes Sansoni Twynam commissioned an Ensign in October 1845; promoted to Lieutenant in July 1847; Captain in January 1858; Major in July 1872 and attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in December 1875. He served with the 61st Regiment at the siege and capture of Delhi in 1857 and in the action at Nujjufghur; and with the 13th Light Infantry in the actions at Doomureaqhgunge, Toolsepore and Bootwasb.
