Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (J, Simson. Civil Service) toned, good very fine £500-600

James Simson joined the Bengal Civil Service in 1854 and is shown on the roll as being a Magistrate at Azmighur. On 18 July 1857, Simson commanded the reserve in the entrenched position when the main body retreated into the entrenchment to avoid being outflanked, the reserve being engaged and Mr Simson was under fire with the regular troops for some hours.

Simson retired in 1883 have recently been appointed as Commissioner of Revenue in Oudh. He died on 3 April 1906.
