China 1842 (A. P. Greene. Mate, H.M.S. Cornwallis.) original straight bar suspension, good very fine £1000-1200

Augustus Percival Greene was born in February 1818. He entered the Navy on 23 June 1831, and passed his examination in May 1838. For his services during the war in China, where he officiated as Mate of the Cornwallis 72, flag-ship of Sir William Parker, and served on shore in the operations against Chapoo and Woosung, he was promoted to Lieutenant , 23 December 1842. His last appointment was in July 1843 to the Plover surveying vessel, commanded in the East Indies by Captain Richard Colinson, with whom he continued until his death, at sea, on 2 December 1844, aged 26 years 9 months.
