Rank of Sergeant on Mullen’s roll which adds that he was a Private at Maida and a Corporal at Corunna.

John Osborn was christened on 11 November 1781, at Berry Pomeroy, Devon. He served in the 20th Foot from 19 October 1796 to 10 November 1818, and admitted to Kilmainham Hospital on disability allowance ‘being a weakly man and subject to Chronic Rheumatism.’ He was then aged 39 and had served 1 year 130 days as a Corporal, 10 years 5 days as a Sergeant, and was discharged in the rank of Colour-Sergeant. He died at Stoke Damerel, Devon, on 28 July 1860, aged 84 years, his occupation given on his death certificate as ‘Pay Sergeant 20th Foot.’
