Croix de Guerre London Gazette 4 September 1919. ‘Temporary Lieutenant (acting Captain) William Robson Smith, Royal Field Artillery (Z/31st Medium Trench Mortar Battery)’

Corporal William Robson Smith, Royal Field Artillery, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 17 April 1915. He received a commission in the R.F.A. on 28 December 1915. Awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre. Captain W. Robson Smith, ‘X’ 31st Trench Mortar Battery, R.F.A., died on 19 November 1918, aged 32 years and was buried in the Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery. He was the son of Dr. James and Mrs Smith, of 2 Victoria Street, Newcastle-on-Tyne. In addition to the above, Captain Smith was awarded the 1914-15 Star trio of medals.
