Army L.S. & G.C. (2), V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (875 Sergt. J. Bettles, 11th Hussars); another, E.VII.R. (3386 Sjt. G. Dowten, 11/Hrs.) good very fine (2) £120-160

John Bettles was born in Peterborough. A Blacksmith by occupation he enlisted into the 11th Hussars at Peterborough on 28 December 1865, aged 20 years, 6 months. With them he served in India, July 1866-January 1877. Discharged 8 March 1887. The above was his only medallic award, issued in April 1884. With copied service papers and photocopied photograph.

Staff Serjeant G. Dowten, 11th Hussars, awarded the L.S. & G.C. by A.O. April 1910 and the M.S.M. with annuity by A.O. 1949. With some copied research.
