Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Modder River, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Transvaal (6648 Pte. J. McPhee, A. & S. Highrs.) very fine £140-180

James McPhee was born in Govan. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 4th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (Militia), he attested for regular service with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders on 19 July 1898, aged 18 years. With the regiment he served in South Africa, October 1899-May 1903. Tried by court martial in November 1902 for desertion on active service, was found guilty and sentenced to 1 years imprisonment. With the 2nd Battalion he served in the Great War, entering the France/Flanders theatre of war on 21 August 1914. He was wounded in action, 15 October 1914 and killed in action on 21 October 1914. With copied service papers and m.i.c. - showing entitlement to the 1914 Star with clasp trio of medals.
