3623 Private J. Smith, 2nd Battalion Scottish Rifles, died of wounds at Ladysmith, 25 January 1900. Was probably wounded at the battle of Spion Kop. With copied roll extract, the ‘remarks’ section states, ‘Killed 24.1.00’.
