Five: Flight Sergeant A. Steele, Royal Canadian Air Force, who flew operationally as a 2nd Pilot in Lancasters of No. 106 Squadron in the closing weeks of the War

1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, silver; Canadian Voluntary Service Medal 1939-45, with overseas clasp, very fine and better (5) £300-350

Archibald Steele commenced his pilot training at Virden, Manitoba, Canada, in April 1943, and qualified for his “Wings” in February 1944. Embarked for England, and having converted to Lancasters at R.A.F. Wigsley, he was posted to No. 106 Squadron at Metheringham in March 1945, in which month, as 2nd Pilot, he participated in attacks on Bohlen and Wesel. And in April he flew further sorties against Pilsen, Flensburg and Tonsberg, prior to being posted to the Path Finder Training Unit at R.A.F. Warboys.

Sold with the recipient’s original R.C.A.F. Pilot’s Flying Log Book, covering the period April 1943 to September 1945.
