Christopher Felix Cantwell was killed in action on the night of 14-15 June 1944, while serving in a Lancaster of No. 15 Squadron in a strike on the E-Boats pens at Le Havre. His pilot was an Australian, Flight Lieutenant R. L. Purry, and only one crew member survived, Flight Sergeant R. M. Gilleade, who subsequently evaded capture. The son of Richard and Margaret Cantwell of Liverpool, he was 24 years of age and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
