1914 Star, with clasp (S-18462 Sjt. G. W. Spencer, A.S.C.); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oak leaf (S-18462 T.W.O. Cl. 1 G. W. Spencer, A.S.C.); Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (S-18462 S. Sjt. G. W. Spencer, R.A.S.C.); Army Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R. (S-18462 S. Sjt. - T.S.S. Mjr. G. W. Spencer, A.S.C.); France, Medaille Militaire, mounted as worn, enamel chipped on the obverse and reverse of the last, and somewhat polished, otherwise generally very fine (6) £550-650

Gilbert William Spencer, a native of Colchester, Essex, was thrice mentioned in despatches (London Gazettes 15 June 1916, and 4 January and 24 December 1917, refer), in addition to being awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (London Gazette 17 June 1918, refers), and French Medaille Militaire (London Gazette 24 February 1916, refers), the whole in respect of services in France and Flanders - which theatre of war he entered on 12 August 1914, on attachment to H.Q., A.S.C., in 11th Infantry Brigade; sold with copied research.
