Three: Captain C. L. Cliffe, Royal Air Force, late Honourable Artillery Company

1914 Star, with clasp (792 Pte. C. L. Cliffe, H.A.C.); British War and Victory Medals (Capt. C. L. Cliffe, R.A.F.), one or two edge bruises, otherwise generally very fine (3) £180-220

Charles Lewis Cliffe, who was born in Buckinghamshire in December 1892, was mobilised on the outbreak of hostilities direct from the Honourable Artillery Company (Territorial Force), and went out to France on 18 September 1914. He subsequently transferred to the Royal Air Force and served as a Technical Officer in Aircraft Production and, post-war, settled in Canada, where he died in North Vancouver in September 1976; sold with the recipient’s original embodiment paper from August 1914.
