William McGough enlisted into the D.L.I. on 25 June 1900 and served in the Boer War with the 1st Battalion. With the 2nd Battalion D.L.I. he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 19 September 1914. He was discharged on 17 April 1916 due to wounds and was awarded the Silver War Badge (not in lot).
