Corporal J. Range served with ‘B’ Squadron at Omdurman and was slightly wounded in the right arm and back in the charge on 2 September 1898. His squadron bore the brunt of the action, with 9 killed and 26 wounded, and won three V.Cs and three D.C.Ms.

A contemporary named Khedive’s Sudan to this recipient was sold by Sotheby, London, in 2000
