Three: Colour Sergeant John Jones, 57th Regiment - awarded the Medaille Militaire

Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol (Colr. Sergt. John Jones, 57th Reg.) contemporary engraved naming, France, Second Empire, Medaille Militaire, 2nd type, silver; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, lightly re-engraved ‘Jones’, fitted with replacement ring suspension, first with refitted suspension, heavy contact / scratch marks and edge bruising, poor; second, lacking enamel, otherwise very fine; third with contact marks and edge bruising, fine (3) £400-500

1802 Colour Sergeant John Jones, 57th Regiment, was wounded during the battle of Inkermann, 5 November 1854. He embarked for England on 29 June 1855. Jones was awarded the French Medaille Militaire for distinguished service in the field whilst he was serving at the Depot on 28 May 1857 (ref. Historical Records of the Fifty-Seventh ...., by Warre).

The second and third medals have probably been ‘added’ to make up the group to which he was entitled.
