Pair: Private Robert Strachan, 42nd Royal Highlanders

Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Sebastopol (1655 Robert Strachan, 42. Royal Highlanders) regimentally impressed naming; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (R. Strachan) contemporary engraved naming, pierced with ring suspension, with silver brooch bar inscribed, ‘A. Strachan’, edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine and better (2) £400-450

Robert Strachan was born in North Leith, Scotland and attested for the 72nd Regiment at Edinburgh on 13 April 1837, aged 17 years. He transferred to the 42nd Highlanders in May 1842. Served overseas in the Cape of Good Hope, Malta, Bermuda, Nova Scotia, Turkey and the Crimea. Discharged at Stirling Castle on 13 May 1859, being in possession of the above two medals and two Good Conduct Badges. With copied discharge papers.
