William Gillespie was born in Killingworth, Northumberland and enlisted at Cramlington. Serving with the 9th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers he earned the M.M. Gillespie was killed in action, France/Flanders, 22 March 1918. He was buried in the Croisilles British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He was the son of Robert and Mary Gillespie, of Dudley, Northumberland.
