A Second World War Italy operations I.D.S.M. awarded to Sepot Qasim Ali, 3-15 Punjab Regiment

Indian Distinguished Service Medal, G.VI.R. (20304 Sep. Qasim Ali, 3-15 Punjab R.), officially impressed naming, minor edge bruise, better than very fine £600-800

I.D.S.M. London Gazette 11 May 1944. The original recommendation for an immediate award states:

‘On the night of 2-3 December 1943, near Langiano, this man’s company was engaged in an attempt to cut the road in the rear of the enemy. During the advance against the enemy position, Sepoy Qasim Ali acted as a scout, and was wounded twice in the leg and once in the arm, but regardless of the enemy machine-gun fire, and in spite of considerable pain from the wounds, he returned the enemy’s fire with considerable accuracy. Later on, after his wounds were bandaged, Sepoy Qasim Ali returned to his section, and continued to fight with no thought of personal danger or discomfort, and it wasn’t until his Company Commander ordered him back to the R.A.P. that he left his platoon.’

Qasim Ali was from Rehan, Goojerat, in the Punjab.
