A ‘Third Afghan War’ I.D.S.M. awarded to Subadar Gul Khan, Kurram Militia

Indian Distinguished Service Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (Subdr., Kurram Militia) good very fine £400-450

I.D.S.M. G.G.O. No. 1 of 1920, for the N.W. Frontier of India.

M.I.D. G.G.O. No. 1846 of 1920.

‘On 29 May an Orakzai lashkar came down from the mountains to attack the Militia post of Badama. Badama was commanded by Subadar Gul Khan, who with one hundred rifles of the Militia and a lashkar of Turi villagers, waded into the Orakzais and drove them out of the valley with the loss of twenty dead.’ (ref.

A total of only eight I.D.S.M’s. were awarded to the Kurram Militia during the period 1907-22 (ref.
