A ‘Third Afghan War’ I.D.S.M. awarded to Subadar Gul Khan, Kurram Militia

‘On 29 May an Orakzai lashkar came down from the mountains to attack the Militia post of Badama. Badama was commanded by Subadar Gul Khan, who with one hundred rifles of the Militia and a lashkar of Turi villagers, waded into the Orakzais and drove them out of the valley with the loss of twenty dead.’ (ref. A total of only eight I.D.S.M’s. were awarded to the Kurram Militia during the period 1907-22 (ref. The Indian Distinguished Service Medal, by Chhina).
