M.C. London Gazette 1 February 1919. ‘T./2nd Lt. Guy Mannering Chantrill, Gen. List (N. Russia)’

‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He personally guided the infantry to their objective at V.P.455 on the 14th October, 1918. He had previously reconnoitred the position four times. This work necessitated his passing behind the enemy lines to a depth of four versts. He has been with the attacking forces since the landing on Modyuski Island, and his reconnaissances have been of the greatest value.’ [A ‘verst’ is an obsolete Russian unit of length, approximately equal to 0.6 of a mile; 1.06 of a kilometer]

White Russian Awards ...., by Ray Brough, he is listed as being awarded the Russian Order of St. Anne, 3rd Class with swords.

Guy Mannering Chantrill was educated at King Edward’s School, Birmingham. As a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant on the General List, having earlier earned the M.C. for North Russia, he received a special appointment, Cl. HH. on 1 November 1918 (
London Gazette 5 April 1919). Temporary 2nd Lieutenant Guy Mannering Chantrill, M.C., General List relinquished his commission but retained his rank on 6 November 1919 (London Gazette 21 February 1921).
