Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908, no clasp (P.O. John Dalton “Dongola” 1896) erasure after year, very fine £140-180

John Dalton was born in Kentish Town, Middlesex on 27 January 1870. He enlisted in the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 18 May 1885 and was advanced to Boy 1st Class in March 1886. He was promoted to Ordinary Seaman in January 1888 when on Agincourt and to Able Seaman in May 1889 when on Volage. Serving on the Blenheim he was promoted to Leading Seaman in August 1894 and to Petty Officer 2nd Class in September 1894. He served on Scout, October 1895-December 1898, being advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class in June 1897 and serving in the Sudan campaign and qualifying for the Khedive’s Sudan Medal. Dalton was shore pensioned in 1910 but returned to the service in August 1914, serving on Pyramus, August 1914-April 1916; Alert, April - May 1916 and Dalhousie, May - December 1916. Later service was on Victory I, Vernon and Venerable, being demobilised in May 1919. With copied service paper and copied Khedive’s Sudan Medal roll extracts.
