Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Col. & Lt. Col. Alexr. Jardine, 75th Regt.) with silver brooch bar, nearly extremely fine £600-700

Alexander Jardine, the scion of a landed Scottish ‘Borders’ family of some antiquity - a family who were founders of the famous Hong Kong trading house - Jardine Mathieson, was appointed an Ensign by purchase in April 1826; Lieutenant by purchase, February 1830; and Captain by purchase, March 1836. Awarded the brevet of Major on 9 November 1846 and appointed to that rank without purchase in April 1849. Appointed Lieutenant-Colonel by purchase in June 1849 and attained the rank of Colonel on 28 November 1854. Colonel Jardine retired on full pay on 7 October 1859. The ‘Mutiny’ medal roll shows that he qualified for the medal with no clasp for his service at the ‘Allumbagh’ before Lucknow. With copied roll and gazette extracts and other research.
