Military General Service 1793-1814, 10 clasps, Busaco, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, Toulouse (A. Campbell, Drumr. 74th Foot.) edge bruising and contact marks, therefore nearly very fine £2800-3200

Provenance: Glendining, June 1933 and February 1940.

Twelve 10-clasp medals were issued to the 74th Foot. One officer and four men received the maximum entitlement of 11 clasps.

Alexander Campbell was born in the Parish of Calder, in the County of Nairn, and attested there for the 74th Foot on 12 September 1808, aged 16 years. He was promoted to Drummer on 25 October 1810 and served in that rank for the remainder of his service. He served ‘4 years and 5 months in the Peninsula and France, 10 years and one month in North America, one year and six months in the West Indies, the remainder at Home. - was present at the Battles of Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Orthes and Toulouse, and at the Sieges of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajos.’ Campbell was discharged to Pension at Dublin on 7 June 1833, then aged 40 years, his conduct being described as ‘particularly good, both in the Field and in Quarters.’ Sold with copied discharge papers and other research.
