David Grey/Gray was born at Arbroath, in the county of Angus, and enlisted into the Artillery at Dundee on 1 March 1802, aged 18 years for unlimited service. He was promoted to Corporal in January 1805, and to Sergeant in December 1810, being posted to “C” Troop R.A. Drivers attached to Dickson’s Company 10th Battalion R.A. He was present at the battle of Waterloo in Major N. Turner’s “A” Troop of R.A. Drivers, for which he was entitled to the Waterloo Medal and two years’ additional service. Sergeant Grey was discharged at Woolwich on 31 November 1818, in consequence of ‘being afflicted with an injury received on service’. His general conduct was good and he was placed on the pension list at one shilling and nine pence per diem. Sold with copied discharge papers and other research.
