Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Corunna (John Tallis, 4th Foot.) nearly very fine £700-900

Provenance: Glendining, May 1937.

John Tallis was born in the Parish of ‘Sully Hill’ [Solihull], Warwickshire, and enlisted into the 4th Foot at the age of 18 on 7 June 1804. He served with the 1st Battalion at Corunna in 1809 and most likely proceeded with the regiment on the Walcheren expedition later that same year. He was transferred to the 8th Regiment of Royal Veterans on 24 March 1814, and was discharged at Fort Cumberland on 4 July 1814, in consequence of ‘hernia and His Majesty having no further occasion for his services.’ Sold with copied discharge papers and muster rolls.
