India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919 (Maj. Gen. R. St. C. Lecky, R.A.) minor edge bruising and scratch marks, good very fine £400-500

Robert St. Clair Lecky was born on 11 February 1863, the 4th son of J. F. Lecky, D.L., Ballykealey, Co. Carlow, Ireland. Entering the Royal Artillery in 1882, he became a Captain in 1891; Major in 1900; Lieutenant-Colonel in 1908; Colonel in 1912 and attained the rank of Major-General in 1917. Served as A.D.C. to Major-General, Bengal, 1893-97; A.Q.M.G., India, 1913. Served in the Great War and was seven times mentioned in despatches and awarded the C.B. in 1915 and C.M.G. in 1917. Also awarded the French Legion of Honour 3rd Class and the Russian Order of Stanislaus, 2nd Class with swords. He afterwards served in the Third Afghan War 1919 and was again mentioned in despatches. Placed on Retired Pay in 1920. Latterly living at Ballykealey, Co. Carlow, he died on 4 June 1940.
