Harry Laughton Fuller was born in Witton Park, Co. Durham on 5 March 1873. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 1st Durham Light Infantry Volunteers and a former member of the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Light Infantry, he attested for the Royal Marines at Portsmouth on 16 October 1892. Latterly serving in South Africa, he was discharged by purchase from the Marines in August 1900. Fuller then enlisted into Brabant’s Horse at Cape Town on 14 November 1900 and was discharged time expired in November 1901. He then enlisted into the Imperial Light Horse at Cape Town in December 1901, being discharged in June 1902. For his services he was awarded the Queen’s medal with no clasp as a Private in the Royal Marines on H.M.S. Monarch (not with lot) and the Queen’s medal with five clasps as a Trooper in the Regiments of Horse. At the time of the Great War he was employed as an Iron Moulder living in London, Ontario. He attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at London on 13 September 1915 and was posted to the Canadian Engineers.
