John W. Dickens was born in Manchester. A Collier by occupation, he attested for the Artillery on 20 February 1885. Served with ‘A’ Battery R.H.A. in India, September 1887-February 1893. Transferred to the reserve in February 1897. Recalled he served with ‘J’ and ‘M’ Batteries in South Africa, March 1900-October 1901. With copied roll extract and some service details.
