J. Moreton was born on 15 December 1939. After service in the Australian Armed Forces, he enlisted into the British Army on 4 July 1972 and served with the Royal Tank Regiment until discharged in January 1982. Was trained for service in Chieftain Tanks. Amongst the courses he had passed was that of Basic Free Fall Parachutist.
