1939-45 Star; Africa Star; War Medal 1939-45, together with the recipient’s illuminated Buckingham Palace memorial scroll in the name of ‘Marine J. Beazley, Royal Marines’, in its original forwarding envelope addressed to ‘Mrs. F. M. Beazely, 70 St. Michaels Grive, Fareham, Hants.’, extremely fine (3) £120-150

James Beazely, who was borne on the books of H.M.S. St. Angelo, was killed in action in Malta on 23 March 1941, on which date the Germans launched two major bombing attacks on shipping in Grand Harbour, Valetta. In exactly what circumstances he was killed remains unknown, though it is possible he was manning an anti-aircraft gun. He was buried locally in the Cappuccin Naval Cemetery.
