Private J. J. Deegan, 2nd Battalion East Surrey Regiment served in Palestine from 17 December 1945 to 10 April 1947. His General Service Medal was issued on 10 February 1960. His medal was named to the ‘Surreys’ - The Queen’s Royal Surrey Regiment as The East Surrey Regiment and the Queen’s Royal Regiment (West Surrey) had amalgamated in October 1959.
