Four: Acting Able Seaman J. C. Allen, Royal Navy, a long served D.E.M.S. gunner

1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star, clasp, France and Germany; Pacific Star, clasp, Burma; War Medal 1939-45, in their original card forwarding box, addressed to the recipient in Cornwall, extremely fine (4) £100-120

John Charles Allen was born in Flushing, Cornwall, in July 1908, and entered the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman in May 1941. Having then attended the training establishment Wellesley at Blyth in Northumberland, he was appointed an Acting Able Seaman in Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships in August of the same year, and he remained similarly employed until coming ashore in November 1945, latterly having acted as a gun layer.

Sold with the recipient’s original Certificate of Service, together with his Gunnery History Sheet, his Order for Release from Naval Service, dated 24 November 1945, and a Report of Wound or Hurt Certificate, this latter for a gun blast injury received on 13 June 1945, while serving in H.M.S.
