British War Medal 1914-20 (3417 Pte. C. H. R. Larsen, 53-Bn. A.I.F.) in named card box of issue and in registered envelope addressed to ‘Mr J. Larsen, “Tasma” Eric St., Northbridge’, extremely fine £80-100

Charles Hubert Reginald Larsen enlisted on 4 January 1917, aged 25 years, 6 months. Serving in the 53rd Battalion (The Whale Oil Guards), he entered France on 23 July 1917. Serving in Polygon Wood, he was killed in action on 26 September 1917. An informant recalls seeing him being mortally wounded by an 18lb ‘whizzbang’. He died 10 minutes after the explosion and was buried where he fell. As his grave was never later located his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. With copied research.
