Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Syria (James McKay.) fitted with silver ribbon buckle, suspension claw re-fixed, otherwise good very fine £600-700

James McKay was born at Campbeltown, Argyll, and entered the Royal Navy on 14 March 1806, as an Admiral’s Domestic on board the Tonnant. He served subsequently aboard the Prince of Wales (March 1812 to July 1814) and the Bombay (July 1814 to July 1816). After a long period ashore, he next joined the Bellerophon on 29 April 1836, as a Boatswain’s Mate, and served in that ship during the operations off the coast of Syria, now as a Boatswain’s Yeoman. He suffered a rupture during a gale on 19 January 1841, and was paid off from Bellerophon on 5 June 1841. Sold with copied muster rolls.
