Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, South Africa 1902 (4974 Spr. R. B. Mackie, Tel. Bn. R.E.); Africa General Service 1902-56, 2 clasps, Somaliland 1902-04, Jidballi (4974 Sapr. R. B. Mackie, R.E.), very fine or better (2) £400-500

Robert Brown Mackie was born in Avondale, Stratheven, Lanarkshire, and enlisted in the Royal Engineers at Chatham in February 1900, aged 18 years. He subsequently witnessed active service out in South Africa from December 1901 until the end of hostilities (Medal & 3 clasps), and in Somaliland from July 1903 until December 1904, including the action at Jidballi (Medal & 2 clasps). Transferred to the Army Reserve on in March 1905, he was finally discharged in February 1912. Sold with copied service papers, which confirm his entitlement to the above described Medals & clasps.
