One officer and 22 men of the Royal Highlanders were present at Abu Klea with the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment.

George Brailsford was born in the Parish of Rawmarsh, Sheffield, and attested for the 57th Brigade at Sheffield on 8 September 1880, aged 20 years. He transferred to the 42nd Foot on 22 December 1882, and served with the regiment in the Eastern Soudan in 1884, including the actions at El-Teb and Tamaai, in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, including the action at Abu Klea, and in the operations upon the upper Nile in 1885-86, including the battle of Ginnis (Egyptian Medal with three clasps; Bronze Star). He transferred to the Army Reserve in October 1886 and was discharged at Perth on 5 September 1892. Sold with copied discharge papers and other research.
