Archibald Riddle was born in the Parish of Newfoundland, Lanark, and enlisted into the 97th Foot on 8 July 1794. He transferred to the 42nd Foot on 25 November 1795 and saw service in the Egyptian campaign of 1801, and in the Peninsula at the battles of Corunna and Salamanca. He was discharged to pension at Aberdeen on 24 September 1814, in consequence of a visceral affection. Sold with research including copied discharge and pension papers.
