Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (1532 Pte. S. Shipton, Rl. Ir. Rif.) good very fine £80-100

Samuel Shipton was born in Lambeth, London. A Butcher by occupation, he attested for the 50th Regiment at Westminster on 22 June 1862. Transferred to the 83rd Regiment in August 1864. Served overseas in Gibraltar, April 1867-March 1870; East Indies, March 1870-January 1881, and Natal, January 1881-January 1882. He was accidentally wounded on 4 January 1882. Discharged on Guernsey on 30 June 1885 having completed his second period of limited engagement.
