Robert Green was born in Haxley, Gloucestershire. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 3rd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment (Militia), he attested for the Grenadier Guards at Gloucester on 4 October 1898, aged 18 years, 7 months. With the 3rd Battalion he served in Gibraltar, September-November 1899 and in South Africa, March 1900-October 1902. Transferred to the Army Reserve in October 1905 and discharged as medically unfit on 2 May 1910. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
